It is the responsibility of the property owner or landlord to ensure that smoke alarms are installed, maintained, and tested on an annual basis. The property owner or landlord is also required to test the smoke alarm after the battery has been replaced.
It is the responsibility of the tenant to notify the landlord if the smoke alarm is disconnected, not operating, or is impaired.
No person shall disable a smoke alarm.
