For leaks, please check to ensure that you are reporting a water meter leak and not a leaking shut-off valve (tap) or pipes, as valves and pipes are the homeowner's responsibility to fix.
The water meter is typically located in the basement, along the front wall and near the floor. Other common places include basement washrooms, laundry rooms and furnace rooms.
It is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure the meter is protected. Homeowners will be charged a fee for damaged, frozen or missing water meters. For leaky meters, we will send someone out to investigate. Property owners will only be charged if it is determined the meter has been damaged. These costs are dependent on the size of the meter and are determined by Council on an annual basis:
