As of December 1, 2023, parking violation penalties on municipal and private parking lots in Toronto increased to $75. This update encourages compliance with parking rules and applies to all City-owned and private facilities. The City provides multiple ways to pay, dispute, or check the status of parking violations, and residents are advised to stay alert for scams.

Updated Parking Violation Penalty

  • Effective Date: December 1, 2023
  • New Penalty Amount: $75 (previously $30)
  • Applies to municipal lots (Exhibition Place, Distillery District, TTC, Toronto Parking Authority) and all private parking facilities.
  • The new penalty aims to encourage adherence to parking regulations and discourage unauthorized parking.
  • Revenue collected from these penalties goes to the City of Toronto’s general revenue.

How to Pay Your Parking Violation

Parking Violation Court Summary

  • A detailed printout of paid and outstanding parking violations, available at Inquiry & Payment counters.
  • Used for Reopening, Extension of Time to Pay, or Appeals of POA Part II parking violations issued prior to August 28, 2017.
  • A Photocopy/Screen Print Fee applies for each printout.

Parking Violations on Rental or Car-Share Vehicles

  • Review your lease agreement for guidance if a violation occurs while using a rental or car-share vehicle.
  • Duplicate Payments: The City only confirms payment, not the payer. Refunds for duplicate payments are issued to the rental agency; any administrative fees charged by the agency are not reimbursed by the City.

Be Alert for Scams

  • The City of Toronto does not send text messages or third-party reminders for parking violations.
  • If you receive suspicious messages, do not click links and delete the message immediately.
