Notice: Parking Violation Notice (PVN) Penalty Amount on Municipal/Private Property (i.e., Parking Lots)

  • As of December 1, 2023, the penalty amounts for parking illegally on municipal or private parking facilities (i.e., a parking lot) increased from $30.00 to $75.00.
  • Many parking facilities offer event parking rates that are higher than the previous penalty amount of $30.00, leading some motorists to risk receiving a parking violation notice (PVN) instead of paying the posted rates at kiosks. The new penalty amount of $75.00 aims to promote adherence to parking regulations and discourage unauthorized parking on public and private properties.
  • The new penalty amount applies to municipal parking lots such as, Exhibition Place, Distillery District, TTC, Toronto Parking Authority and any other City-owned parking facility. Similarly, the penalty amount also applies to all private parking facilities.
  • All revenue collected because of this new penalty amount, from municipal and private facilities, goes to the City of Toronto’s general revenue.

Parking Violation Court Summary

A "parking violation court summary" is a detailed printout of both paid and outstanding parking violations, available upon request at any of the City's Inquiry & Payment counters. There is a fee for each printout. This printout is typically used when applying for a Reopening, Extension of Time to Pay or Appealing of POA Part II parking violations issued prior to August 28, 2017.

Parking violations on a rental car or car-share vehicle

It is essential to review the lease agreement for clarification on how to deal with a parking violation issued while operating a rental car or a car-share vehicle.

Charged twice for a parking violation for a rental vehicle

Parking Violations Operations does not record the identity of the person who made the payment, they can only confirm that a payment has been made. Typically, if a duplicate payment occurs for a parking violation associated with a rental vehicle, the City will issue a refund to the rental agency for the additional payment. Customers are advised to request reimbursement from the car rental agency as they often charge an administrative fee for having paid the parking violation. The City of Toronto does not collect the administration fee charged by the rental agency. Therefore, we cannot reimburse it.
