Ways to pay your property taxes:

  • Financial institutions - Payments can be made at your bank or through your financial institution’s secure website.  You will need your 21-digit assessment roll number from your property tax bill or statement. It can take 3-5 business for the City to receive these payments.
  • Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Program - Enrol in pre-authorized tax payments where you can authorize the City to deduct property tax payments directly from your bank account.
  • Mail - Post- dated cheques are accepted for the due dates. Cheques are payable to the Treasurer, City of Toronto and can be mailed to:
    • Treasurer, City of Toronto
PO Box 5000, Willowdale STN A
      Toronto, ON M2N 5V1
  • Courier - Revenue Services, 5100 Yonge St., Lower Level, Toronto, ON M2N 5V7
  • In Person - You can pay by cash, debit and/or cheque at an Inquiry & Payment Counter. Payment by credit card is not accepted for property tax.
  • Mortgage Company - If property taxes are paid by your mortgage company and you have received a regular tax bill account, promptly forward the bill or property tax statement to their office.  If you arrange to have your mortgage company pay your taxes, your mortgage company can arrange to have their interest added to your property tax account by sending an email to mortgage updates. Once processed, property tax billing information will be sent to the mortgagor. You will receive a Final Property Tax Bill issued in May for your records.

Paying with foreign currency:

  • U.S. cash payments are not accepted in person at an Inquiry & Payment Counter as City customer service staff are not provided with the daily exchange rates; and as well, they cannot accept foreign currency at the same dollar value as Canadian currency
  • U.S. cheques may be accepted in person, however, since these are negotiated through the City's bank for the foreign exchange rate, cheque payments may be posted to the property tax account several days after the date it is initially received in our office
  • If submitting a U.S. cheque payment, allow sufficient time (at least three weeks) for the payment to be processed and posted to the property tax account by the tax instalment due date

Payment with Cryptocurrency

Payment with Cryptocurrency, such as Bit Coin, is not an accepted method of payment for City of Toronto property taxes.

Payment of Supplementary/Omitted Tax Bills

Supplementary/Omitted Tax Bills cannot be paid through the Pre-Authorized Tax Payment Program or through a mortgage company.

You will need to pay this through another accepted payment method or forward this bill to your mortgage company for payment.

Tax & Utility Payment Drop Box

Payment drop boxes (for cheque payments only — no cash) are available at City Hall and all Civic Centres.

Misapplied Tax Payments

If you made a payment that is not reflected on your property tax account, take the necessary steps to investigate further:

  1. Contact your bank to confirm that the payment was applied to the correct assessment roll number.
  2. Contact a Revenue Services' customer service representative to inquire further about a payment that was not applied to your property tax account.
  3. Provide proof of your payment and, if required, a copy of your Statement of Adjustments (if a change in ownership of the property occurred in the same year as the subject payment).

Proof of Payment

Acceptable proof of payment includes:

  • Cancelled cheque
  • Bank statement reflecting the payment in question
  • Confirmation of online payment
  • Cashier’s paid stamp on a bill/statement paid at one of the City’s Inquiry and Payment Counters
  • Receipt of debit payment made at one of the City’s Inquiry and Payment counters

Note: A printout of the payment history from the Property Tax Lookup is not an acceptable form of proof of payment.
