In 2017, staff development and engagement were among our areas of focus, along with sharpening our strategic focus and making sure our election planning accommodates sweeping changes to legislation and ward boundaries.
We receive daily praise for the work of our staff as individuals and on project teams. Most of it is unreported, but it is always appreciated. A few examples:
Strategic Protocol and External Relations staff involved in the city's hosting of the Invictus Games received this thank you:
"I wanted to send out a big thank you to the City of Toronto staff team for all you, and your staff, did over this past exciting and inspiring week, and the two years prior to help the Invictus Games happen! It's been a pleasure to coordinate this team. I've heard many, many positive stories over the week – from assisting competitors to venues when they missed their buses, to the "best food ever" at Fort York, from allowing flexibility with schedules, to accommodating signage and photos, from smiling SWM (Solid Waste Management) truck drivers to producing maps in 30 minutes - just to name a few! You helped Toronto, thus the Games, shine!"
One of our records management staff working with another City division received this praise:
"Over the past year, our team has been leading a review of the administration process related to employee files at our division's Head Office. To support this initiative, we have been working with the Record Services team in City Clerk's. JoAnne went above and beyond to have our employee files alphabetized within a timely and efficient manner. JoAnne was also able to facilitate identifying solutions to our questions/concerns quickly and innovatively, including producing a comprehensive report on our year-to-date file inventory, exceeding customer service excellence."
Toronto Archives staff received this thank you:
"Thank you both so much for hosting the students from the Conservation and Preservation course at U of T iSchool. The tour was excellent in all respects, and the students enjoyed it very much and learned a lot. The tours at the City Archives are always of very high quality and very professionally carried out, and I am very grateful to all concerned for giving their time so generously. It enhances the course work for the students to be able to see the treatments I am talking about in class actually in practice, and to be able to talk to seasoned professionals about the work and to ask questions also."
From an internal client of our Information Production team:
"Just wanted to send a short note to thank you for all the hard work on the brochure. The brochure has been greeted with open arms by the garden community and we can't keep them in stock. We are now into our second 10,000 printing. It really looks great and I appreciate all the hard work that you put into it."
We received several nominations and awards at the annual Toronto's Got IT Awards of Excellence:
Popcorn sales contributed to a total of more than $47,000 that City Clerk's Office staff raised for the United Way in the City's annual campaign.
