In 2017, staff development and engagement were among our areas of focus, along with sharpening our strategic focus and making sure our election planning accommodates sweeping changes to legislation and ward boundaries.

About the City Clerk's Office

The capital plan totals 52 point 6 million dollars gross, made up of 44.4 million dollars in legislated projects, 7 point 6 million dollars in state of good repair, and zero point six million dollars for health and safety.

The 50 point 7 million dollar gross operating budget is made up of 40 point 6 million dollars in salaries and benefits, zero point one million dollars in equipment, 1 point 1 million dollars in materials and supplies, 7 point 4 million dollars in services and rents, zero point five million dollars in capital transfers & other expenditures, and one point one million dollars in inter-divisional transfers.

What we do

The mission of the City Clerk's Office is to build public trust and confidence in local government. We provide the foundation for municipal government in Toronto.

  • We deliver more than 70 types of services from close to 30 locations across the City.
  • Most services are prescribed in more than 60 distinct pieces of legislation including the City of Toronto Act 2006, Vital Statistics Act, Assessment Act and Planning Act.
  • The City Clerk has broad and independent authority under the Municipal Elections Act to deliver elections and by-elections.
  • We support the Mayor's Office, 44 Councillors' Offices and the Offices of the City's four accountability officers (Auditor General, Integrity Commissioner, Lobbyist Registrar, and Ombudsman.)
