News Release
January 12, 2022

Fourth doses are now being administered in all of the City of Toronto’s 10 directly-operated long-term care (LTC) homes.

In response to the threat of the Omicron variant, all City-run homes are now holding vaccination clinics to administer a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine to eligible LTC residents and working to administer third doses to staff. The clinics will continue until all eligible LTC residents are vaccinated.

On January 6, the City began vaccinating eligible residents with fourth-dose boosters in its LTC homes to strengthen the immune response, which begins to wane in older adults, 10 to 14 weeks after the third dose.

Last month, Team Toronto ramped up vaccination efforts to help all eligible Toronto residents get their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Given the emergence of the new Omicron variant and ongoing community transmission of the Delta variant, Toronto Public Health urges all eligible residents to book their third-dose appointment. Residents who have not yet received their first or second COVID-19 vaccine shot are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. COVID-19 vaccines lower the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death, while protecting oneself, loved ones and the community.

Team Toronto has been delivering third doses at City-run clinics, mobile clinics, hospital partner clinics, more than 525 local pharmacies and doctors’ offices.

The following clinic locations are operating today:

City-run immunization clinics

The five City-run immunization clinics continue to add new appointments for first, second and third doses of COVID-19 vaccine. To book an appointment, click the blue “Book a Vaccine” button here or call 1-833-943-3900. City-run clinics are easily accessible by transit and offer free parking on site. Clinic staff are also able to provide resources in multiple languages. A person with a vaccination appointment can also bring a support person to help with translation.

While City-run clinics and health care partners across the province await further shipments of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine later this month, all City of Toronto-run clinics will administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to residents 30 years of age and older.

People with vaccination appointments are asked to arrive no more than 10 minutes early to vaccination clinics. There will be vaccine doses available for everyone who has an appointment; arriving earlier than necessary does not impact availability. There are no walk-in appointments at City-run vaccination clinics. More information on City-operated immunization clinic transportation options and on-site amenities is available on the City’s COVID-19: How to Get Vaccinated webpage.
