The northbound Don Valley Parkway (DVP) will be fully closed for less than 12 hours as of 7:30 p.m. this evening to facilitate the safe demolition of a building following a fire in the east end.
The northbound DVP will be closed from eastbound Gardiner at Jarvis Street, with northbound access resuming at Dundas Street. The Don Roadway, Eastern Avenue and Queen Street ramps will remain closed during demolition. The expressway will reopen at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, October 16 for the morning commute.
Due to extensive damage caused by last night’s fire at 2 Matilda St., Toronto Fire Services Chief Jim Jessop has authorized that the building be demolished in the interest of public safety. As the building is approximately 30 feet away from the DVP, the expressway will be closed while complex demolition using specialized equipment is underway.
