Service Description

A certified plan for solar domestic hot water systems (solar water heaters).

Please note that a certified plan does not constitute a building permit. A building permit must be obtained for any construction done using a building plan which has been certified.

Certified Plan

All drawings to be drawn on standardized sized sheets, drawn to scale, fully dimensioned, signed and dated.

If drawings were prepared by a qualified designer (as defined under Div. C, Part 3, Section 3.2 of the Ontario Building Code), drawings must include the designer’s name, registration number, qualification identification number, signature, and stamp/statement that the person has reviewed and taken responsibility for the design activities.

All drawings, reports, and forms must be provided in a PDF format.

Engineer’s Letters re: compliance with the Ontario Building Code

  • Structural Compliance letter
  • Mechanical Compliance letter (if not CSA Certified)

Mechanical Information for all systems

  • Copy of homeowner manual – must conform to CSA F379 series, clause 10.
  • If CSA certified submit:
    1. CSA certificate of compliance – complete documentation.
    2. Mechanical drawings – showing all components.
  • If not CSA certified submit:
    1. Stamped mechanical drawings; showing all components.
    2. Heat transfer fluid spec sheet, instructions for use, and/or safety labels for the heat transfer fluid.
    3. System labels-must conform to CSA F379 series, clause 9.

Structural Information

  • Stamped structural drawings showing all structural components and connections to the roof including a span table.
  • Detailed structural calculations.
  • Technical specification of the sealant or gasket used at the roof penetration points.

Flat Roof:

  • Stamped structural drawings showing all structural components and connections to the roof including a span table.
  • Detailed structural calculations.
  • Technical specification of the sealant or gasket used at the roof penetration points.
