Project Background

The Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) is an 11-kilometre light rail transit line along Finch Avenue West between Keele Street and Humber College. It will have 18 stops, including 16 surface stops, plus an underground interchange station at Finch West (connecting to the new Toronto-York-Spadina Subway Extension), and one below-grade terminal stop at Humber College. The Finch West LRT will also connect to other local transit services such as GO, Miway, Viva, and Züm (Brampton), as well as provide an important link to Humber College. Once complete, this project will be operated by the TTC as a seamless connection to the existing TTC Line 1 system.

The Finch West LRT project is a Metrolinx-led project that will provide rapid transit and vital connections between communities and support growth in northwest Toronto.

Current Status

Construction of the Finch West LRT is underway and expected to be completed in 2023. Throughout 2019, the project began moving ahead with preparatory work at several LRT sites. Mosaic Transit Group, the contractor designing and building the LRT, began preparing the following sites for construction:

  • Future Finch West LRT station;
  • Maintenance and storage facility (MSF) between York Gate Boulevard and Norfinch Drive;
  • Highway 400 bridge (work to restore the bridge is also part of the project); and,
  • Future Humber College stop.

The City and TTC continue to work closely with Metrolinx on all aspects of the delivery of the LRT projects in Toronto, including mitigation of construction impacts and business support.
