With simple solutions, low-interest loans, and thousands of dollars in rebates available, there’s never been a better time to improve the energy efficiency of your home. The table, below, includes incentives from the City of Toronto, Province of Ontario, and utility companies, including programs for low-income households.

IMPORTANT:

  1. You CANNOT access rebates from two providers/programs for the same item. For example, if you want to replace your windows, you can apply for the GreenON window rebate OR the Enbridge window rebate, but not both.
  2. Enbridge: Before starting any renovations, you must book a Home Energy Audit with a Registered Energy Advisor (REA). You’ll receive $600 towards the cost of the pre- and post- energy audit when you complete at least two of the eligible home energy upgrades.
  3. GreenON and Toronto Hydro: To qualify for GreenON or Toronto Hydro rebates, you must work with a participating contractor. A home energy audit is not required.

Air Sealing Up to $150 Must complete a pre- and post-Home Energy Audit. Receive $100 for reaching a base target on energy audit report or $150 for reaching 10% above target. Enbridge Home Energy Conservation
Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) for electrically heated homes Up to $5,800 Must complete a pre- and post-Home Energy Audit.

You can receive $1,900 for a ductless ASHP: single head, electric baseboard, with or without A/C or $2,500 per exterior or first interior unit plus $250 for each additional interior unit attached to the same exterior unit.

Up to $4,250 maximum.

$2,500 for a ductless ASHP: Cold climate single head.
OR
$3,000 for an exterior or first interior ductless ASHP: cold climate multiple head plus $400 for each additional interior unit attached to the same exterior unit. Up to $5,800 maximum.

Enbridge Home Energy Conservation
Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) heated with Natural Gas, Oil, Propane or Wood $500 Must complete a pre- and post-Home Energy Audit.
Must be an ENERGY STAR® ASHP with minimum Energy Efficiency Rating of 12.5 or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating of 15 or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor of 8.5.
Enbridge Home Energy Conservation
Appliances 100% of cost For electricity customers who do not qualify for low-income conservation programs but still find their electricity bills a burden.

Receive a Home Energy Plan and upgrades that may include ENERGY STAR® appliances (refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner, dehumidifier and a programmable thermostat). To qualify, complete the contact form or call 1-855-494-3863.

Affordability Fund / Province of Ontario
Appliances Up to $75 Must complete at least two upgrades as part of the Enbridge Home Energy Conservation program. You can receive $75 for installing an ENERGY STAR® refrigerator; $75 for installing an ENERGY STAR® freezer; $75 for installing an ENERGY STAR® clothes washer; or $30 for installing an ENERGY STAR® dehumidifier. Electric Vehicles / Hydrogen Vehicles Up to $14,000 Incentives are available for the purchase and/or lease of eligible new electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles through the Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Incentive Program (EHVIP).

To be eligible, the vehicle must be on the EHVIP Eligible Vehicle and Incentive List.

Province of Ontario
Electrically Commuted Motor (ECM) Circulator Pump $30 Pump must be installed on an existing hydronic heating system and not on a domestic hot water (DHW) heater. It must also be a variable-speed electronically commutated motor. Use of one the Save On Energy participating contractors to install the ECM. Save on Energy
Furnace $1,250 Receive $1,000 for replacing or purchasing a high-efficiency furnace with a higher AFUE natural gas, or propane furnace.

Receive an additional $250 for installing a high-efficiency furnace equipped with an electronically commutated motor (ECM).

Enbridge Home Energy Conservation
Green/Cool Roofs Varies Grants are available to support the installation of green roofs and cool roofs on residential homes.

A green or cool roof can reduce your home’s energy use, retain stormwater, and more.

You can receive:

$5/m2 for a cool roof

$100/m2 for a green roof

Eco-Roof Incentive Program / City of Toronto
Heat Pump 100% of cost For customers with electrically heated homes who do not qualify for low-income conservation programs but still find their electricity bills to be a burden.

Home Energy Loan Program

 

Up to $75,000 Get a low-interest loan from the City of Toronto to cover the cost of your home energy improvements.
Rates start as low as 2%. Repay the loan at any time, without penalty. Eligible improvements include energy-efficient furnaces, windows, doors, solar PV panels, insulation and more. You may use this program in conjunction with other rebate and incentive offerings.

Insulation (for natural gas customers) 100% of cost If you qualify, you could receive new insulation and draft proofing installed by experienced professionals at no cost. Your home must be heated by natural gas and the homeowner must fall into one of the eligible household income brackets in order to qualify. Insulation- Attic/Cathedral/Flat roof Up to $500 Conduct a pre- and post-Home Energy Audit with a Registered Energy Advisor (REA) before and after the installation of your energy improvements and receive $500 to increase attic insulation to at least R50 from R12 or less or $250 from R13 to R25, or $500 to increase the cathedral/flat roof insulation by at least R14.

Must insulate a minimum of 20 per cent of the total ceiling area.

Insulation – Basement Up to $1,250 Conduct a pre- and post-Home Energy Audit with a Registered Energy Advisor (REA) before and after the installation of your insulation. Receive $1,250 to add at least R23 or $750 to add at least R12 to 100% of basement; $1,000 to add at least R23 or $500 to add at least R10 to 100% of crawl space wall; $500 to add at least R24 to 100% of floor above crawl space. Smart Thermostat $100 Purchase a qualifying Smart Thermostat and install it yourself or through a qualifying contractor before December 31, 2018.

To be eligible, you must not have applied and received an incentive related to the thermostat through any other conservation program in Ontario.

Toronto Renovates Homeowners Program Up to $20,000 Lower-income seniors and people with a disability who wish to make health or safety repairs or accessibility modifications to their homes can receive a forgivable loan up to $20,000 maximum to repair anything under the following areas: heating, plumbing, electrical, structural, and fire safety. May be combined with the City of Toronto’s Home Energy Loan Program. City of Toronto
Water Heater $500 Conduct a pre- and post- Home Energy Audit with a Registered Energy Advisor (REA) before and after the installation of your energy improvements and receive $500 for replacing your water heater with 0.80 EF or higher tanked natural gas or propane water heater or a 0.82 EF or higher tankless natural gas or propane water heater. with an indoor pellet-burning appliance,

with an indoor masonry heater,

OR

replace a solid fuel-fired outdoor boiler with an outdoor wood-burning appliance certified to either CAN/CSA-B415.1 or the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Outdoor Wood-fired Hydronic Heater (OWHH Method 28) Program (Phase 1 and 2).
