Toronto Book Awards winner announced
Congratulations to Rabindranath Maharaj, recipient of the 2011 Toronto Book Award for his novel The Amazing Absorbing Boy. The announcement was made at an awards gala held on October 13 at the Toronto Reference Library. Established by Toronto City Council in 1974, the Toronto Book Awards honour authors of books of literary or artistic merit that are evocative of Toronto.

Access, Equity and Human Rights Awards
On December 8, four individuals and one organization were recognized for their ongoing efforts to build a city where everyone can participate fully in the social, cultural, economic, recreational and political life of Toronto.
Winners of Green Toronto Awards
The Toronto residents, non-profit groups and businesses selected as recipients of the 2011 Green Toronto Awards were announced at the annual awards event that was held on April 15. The winners each received a Green Toronto Award and $5,000 courtesy of award sponsors to further their work on the environment.
International Day of People with Disabilities
International Day of People with Disabilities was celebrated by recognizing six local Unsung Heroes for their contributions to their community. Poets read their poems about living with disabilities and local artists displayed their work. Musical entertainment rounded out the event.
2010 Public Health Champion Award recipients announced
Congratulations to Sudharshana Coomarasamy (nee Rajasingam, Individual Category) and The Stop Community Food Centre (Organization Category). See news release for more details.
Community safety awards
Congratulations to the 2010 winners of the Community safety awards. Five projects were recognized and received $1,000, sponsored by Bell, to help continue the work of making Toronto a safer place to live, work, learn and play.
Bicycle Friendly Business Awards (BFBA)
The Bicycle Friendly Business Awards are given out every year to businesses and organizations across Toronto who are making an effort to encourage their clients and employees to cycle.
French Committee Award
The City of Toronto French Committee Award was created in 2005 to commemorate 25 years of the C.F.V.T. in Toronto. The award honours and celebrates leading individuals or organizations that have worked incessantly to benefit the French residents of Toronto.
