The Social Policy Analysis & Research unit is in the process of developing an extensive atlas of social demographic data for the City of Toronto.
Most of the maps in the atlas will be based around the neighbourhood level of geography, with select maps using Census Tracts or even Dissemination Areas, where possible, for added clarity.
The neighbourhood geography provides a consistent, continuous area of study that will not be subject to future political or demographic changes. This will allow for easier comparison studies over time. Below is a sample of the cartographic products that will be available in the atlas.
Ethnic Origins for Toronto CMA (Census 2001)
Religious Affiliation by Census Tracts (Census 2001)
* N.I.E.: not included elsewhere
Visible Minorities for Toronto (Census 2001)
Visible Minorities for Census Metropolitan Area (Census 2001)
* N.I.E.: not included elsewhere
Low Income Neighbourhoods (Census 2001)
Home Languages (Census 2001)
Recent Immigrants (Census 2001)
Note: Some religious, ethno-racial and immigrant groups may be subject to undercounts for a variety of reasons. While this would not change the spatial pattern, it might affect absolute numbers. Use with caution.
