The Toronto Fire
Fighters War Veterans' Association began in a small way. In 1935,
eight veterans of World War I, met at The Prisoner of War Club at
Shuter and Mutual Streets. The organization, originally promoted
the welfare of Toronto fire fighter ex-servicemen and provided a
social outlet for them and their families.

The organization
grew rapidly after the close of World War II. It welcomed new fire
fighters (war veterans) of the Toronto Fire Department and neighbouring
fire departments, as those departments grew, due to the influx of
people to the suburbs. The Association later welcomed non-veteran
fire fighters as Associate Members.
In the early
1950's the Association formed a Colour Guard that carry the following
Colours: Canada, Union Jack, U.S.A., Ontario, City of Toronto, Toronto
Fire Services, Toronto Fire Fighters' War Veteran's Association,
Navy, Army (Red Ensign), and Air Force. Two ceremonial riflemen
guard the Association Colour. The Colour Guard attends Association
functions and pays tribute to its members at funerals. They also
attend City functions at the request of the Fire Services, City
Protocol, and the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters' Association.

The Association
is currently recruiting new fire fighter members, either veterans
or non-veterans and hopefully among them, there will be some who
would like to march with the Colour Guard, as they proudly show
the Colours to an appreciative public. We welcome active or retired
fire fighters from any of the neighbouring fire departments.
