As per the November 8, 2023 meeting of Toronto City Council, the City no longer conducts polls for traffic calming. For more information on traffic calming measures, please see the Vision Zero safety plan, Vision Zero Road Safety Plan – City of Toronto.

When a proposal for permit or front yard parking is submitted, the City conducts a poll of people in the affected area.

In order for a poll to be considered positive it must meet benchmarks as determined by specific by-law or city policy.

If the result of the poll is positive, the application may proceed through the approval process. Depending upon the type of poll, final approval by City Council may be required.

Council at its April 23 and 24 meeting approved several changes to the Polling and Notification Bylaw to improve the accessibility of the polling process, including lowering the voting age to 16 for residential polls.  For more information please email registryservices@toronto.ca or call 416-392-7063.
