The City collects revenue from property taxation. In addition, the City of Toronto Act, 2006, provides the authority for the City to implement other taxation measures, such as the recent Municipal Land Transfer Tax, or the Personal Vehicle Ownership Tax.

Personal Vehicle Tax (PVT) Cancellation
On Thursday, December 16, 2010 Toronto City Council approved the termination of the City's PVT.
As of January 1, 2011, residents who live within the City of Toronto and who own a vehicle will no longer have to pay the $60 fee for Personal Vehicle Tax (PVT) when renewing their license plates. The tax will continue to be collected on 2010 renewals. Fees paid for 2011 renewals will be refunded.
