Toronto
Islands
Hanlan’s Point, Centre Island and Wards Island

The Toronto Islands have been providing
the residents of Toronto with a beautiful natural playground since the 1800’s.
Hanlans’ Point
Hanlans’ Point used to be known as
a resort community complete with hotels, recreation centre and amusement park.
In 1937, construction of the Toronto Island Airport saw the amusement
park demolished.
Today, Hanlan’s Point operates as a picnic park with many food, fun and
recreation facilities including: 2 snack bars (seasonal), Toronto Island Natural
Science School, bicycle rental, serviced public boat moorings (48-hour limit),
2 wading pools, 6 illuminated tennis courts, 2 softball diamonds, 3 volleyball
courts, 2 supervised beaches (July and August) and Island Yacht Club on Mugg's
Island (private).

Gibraltar Point Lighthouse
Nestled further south on Hanlan’s Point
is one of the oldest Toronto landmarks – Gibraltar Point Lighthouse which
some say is haunted to this day.
Centre Island
Centre Island is located between Hanlan’s Point and Wards Island hence
it’s name. Back in the day, Centre Island was home to several of Toronto’s
wealthiest families who built their summer homes there. Today it boasts over
600 acres of open space and features Centreville Amusement Park, restaurants,
jogging/bike trails, a giant maze and boat and bike rentals.

Wards Island
Wards Island is situated at the eastern part of the Toronto Islands and is named
for the first family to settle on the island in 1830. Wards Island features a
frisbee golf course, marinas, boat moorings and many other recreational facilities.
The Toronto Islands can be easily accessed by a short ferry ride across Toronto
harbour. Toronto Islands is a popular location for commercial shoots and film shoots such as the TV Special "Shattered Dreams", the upcoming TV Movie "The Robber Bride" and the TV Series "Ghostrackers"/
