The City of Toronto half-masts flags at the locations noted to mark national commemorative dates, to mourn the passing of public figures, including current and past elected officials, and to mark tragedies and commemorative dates on the following days:

January 7-10
The late Hon. Alan Redway, PC, KC, 4th Mayor of East York
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall and the Civic Centres will be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Hon. Alan Redway, PC, KC, 4th Mayor of East York (1977-1982), a member of East York and Metro Council from 1972-1982, an elected MP from 1984 to 1993 (York East and Don Valley East) and a former Federal Minister of the Crown (1989-1991).  Mr. Redway passed away on Thursday, January 4.

January 28
The late Hon. Ed Broadbent, PC, CC
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall and the Civic Centres will be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Honourable Ed Broadbent, PC, CC, to mark his State Funeral in Ottawa on Sunday, January 28.

March 1-23
The late Right Hon. Brian Mulroney, PC, CC, GOQ, 18th Prime Minister of Canada
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall and the Civic Centres will be flown at half-mast in memory of the late Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, PC, CC, GOQ, 18th Prime Minister of Canada (1984-1993) until sunset on Saturday, March 23, the date of the State Funeral.

April 9
National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge
Flags on official flag poles at Toronto City Hall, Old City Hall and other locations that memorialize the First World War will be flown at half-mast to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 9.

April 28
National Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace (Workers’ Mourning Day)
Flags on official flag poles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, the Civic Centres and Toronto Long-Term Care Homes will be flown at half-mast to commemorate the National Day of Mourning for persons killed or injured in the workplace.

June 23
National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, Civic Centres and Humber Bay Park East (location of the Air India Memorial) will be flown at half-mast to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism.

September 8
Firefighters’ National Memorial Day
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, the Civic Centres and Fire Halls will be flown at half-mast to commemorate Firefighters’ National Memorial Day.

September 29
Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, and the Civic Centres will be flown at half-mast to commemorate Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day.

September 30
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, Civic Centres, Long Term Care, Parks and other City facilities (where operational considerations permit) will be flown at half-mast to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

November 11
Remembrance Day
Flags on official flag poles at Toronto City Hall, Old City Hall, Civic Centres and Metro Hall will be flown at half-mast to commemorate Remembrance Day.  Flags will also be half-masted at all City of Toronto Division, Agency, Board and Commission headquarters and other City locations that memorialize Canadian war dead.  When half-masting occurs at a location where Remembrance Day is being observed, half-masting may occur according to the prescribed order of service but flags should remain half-masted following the ceremony until sunset/close of business.

December 6
National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Flags on official flagpoles at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall, and the Civic Centres will be flown at half-mast to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
