A new set of updated artist renderings has been produced to showcase the updated design for the Overlea Bridge.
The Renewing Overlea Boulevard project was at the Design Review Panel (DRP) on November 23, 2023.
The Panel comprises private sector design professionals – architects, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers – who provide independent, objective advice to city staff to improve matters of design that affect the public realm.

The City of Toronto is pleased to announce that artist Roda Medhat has won the Overlea Boulevard public art competition. The commission will include sculptural and two-dimensional artworks integrated into the public realm along Overlea Boulevard between Thorncliffe Park Drive East and Don Mills Road. Roda is a Kurdish-Canadian artist who seeks to use sculpture to bridge cultural divides and promote a sense of shared human experience.
City Council authorized the installation of bikeways on Don Mills Road from just north of Gateway Boulevard (south intersection) to Don Mills Road trail, Overlea Boulevard from Thorncliffe Park Drive (east intersection) to Don Mills Road.

Metrolinx is currently designing and building the Ontario Line. A station is planned for Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive (west intersection), which will bring rapid transit to the community. The station and the elevated tracks will be completely separated from vehicles and pedestrians to provide reliable, safe service.

In 2022, the City of Toronto launched a public art competition for integrated public artwork(s) as part of the redesign and replacement of the Overlea Boulevard Bridge and surrounding roadwork improvements.
In spring 2023, a specially convened Selection Panel composed of arts professionals and community members met to evaluate the artist submissions. The panel determined a shortlist of five artists/teams to proceed to the second stage of the competition.
Based on public feedback and comments from the Selection Panel, a winning submission was selected.
