A Guide for Retailers provides owners and employees information on the sale, supply, display and promotion requirements of tobacco and vapour products under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA, 2017).

It is the responsibility of the business owner to ensure that their store complies with the law. Owners must be diligent in training all staff on their legal responsibilities and ensure all applicable signage is posted in accordance with the legislation.

The owner of a business is deemed liable for any contravention of the SFOA, 2017 regarding the sale, supply and promotion of a tobacco product or vapour product unless the owner exercised due diligence to prevent such a contravention.
