The number of people actively experiencing homelessness in Toronto continues to grow. New homes with supports are urgently needed to ensure everyone has a warm, safe place to call home. To respond to this urgent need, the City of Toronto was planning to build modular housing at 75 Tandridge Crescent. The project is no longer under consideration due to additional technical work needed that will continue beyond the deadline for accessing available funding under the Rapid Housing Initiative. Read the community notice about this update.
As part of the review of the site plan application, design and technical elements are reviewed by a number of relevant City divisions such as Toronto Water, Transportation Services and Toronto Fire etc.; and other agencies or partners such as Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, TTC and Enbridge, etc. In particular, additional time is required to conduct technical work related to this area being in an identified flood plain and therefore we are not able to complete the project within the Rapid Housing Initiative timeline
Many homes and communities already exist in floodplains (view a map of locations) however planning for new development in these areas can be more complex as additional work can be required.
Housing with supports is a combination of deeply affordable housing and on-site supports that enable people to live as independently as possible. Supportive housing can help people stabilize their lives, help them stay housed and positively contribute to communities.
