Applications for Nuit Blanche 2021 are now closed.

Independent Project Program

Independent Projects are self-produced, self-funded partners of Nuit Blanche. Toronto-based artists, museums, galleries, cultural and educational institutions, neighbourhoods and BIAs are invited to submit proposals to activate and transform the city with art. Proposals should have a strong visual component, be rooted in contemporary art practice and relate to the curatorial theme – The Space Between Us.

There are two streams of Independent Projects:

  • Self-produced projects sited in neighbourhoods all over the city in traditional and non-traditional spaces – public realm, parks, galleries, storefronts, office towers, streets, sidewalks, etc. Online applications are closed as of December 7, 2020.
  • Animating Toronto Streets granting program funded by the Toronto Arts Council – self-produced projects exclusively located in the right of way – streets closures, sidewalks, bridges, etc.

Open Call Project Program

The Nuit Blanche Open Call Program is open to professional artists and collectives. Proposals should respond to the curatorial theme of the event and be in one of the identified key neighbourhoods.

Open Call applications are reviewed by the Artistic Director and City staff against the criteria outlined in the program guidelines. All projects are selected based on artistic merit, project feasibility and relation to the curatorial theme.

Selected projects are funded and produced by the City of Toronto.

Online applications are closed as of December 7, 2020.
