Multi-residential properties that receive front-end containerized City collection services
Effective February 15, 2018, property owners of Front-End lift commercial and multi-residential buildings will now receive a garbage only bill separate from the water bill. The garbage bill will show charges based on the volume of garbage the building generates.
A building with a compactor is required to use it to compact all of the garbage generated at the building. All bins at the locations will be billed as compacted.
This policy is applied consistently City-wide without deviation. This compacted rate will be applied retroactively if Solid Waste discovers that there is a compactor in the building.
Note: All bins collected at curbside or from multi-residential properties are not weighed when collected. The bills are based on the volume of the container. There is no scale on the vehicle.

Multi-residential properties that receive curbside City collection services
Property owners of multi-residential buildings with curbside collection receive a combined Toronto Water/Solid Waste bill. The Solid Waste cost portion shows charges based on the volume of garbage created from all garbage bins on site and the frequency of garbage collection. All bins that are on record will be billed, even if they are not placed out every collection.

Note: A multi-residential building is defined as a building used mainly for residential purposes which contains nine or more dwelling units. The units can be condos or rentals. These customers may have steel metal bins for garbage if they are collected front end. Alternatively, they may have their waste collected via curbside collection using black 95 gallon garbage bins with a serial # that begins with 95B.
