Description of Service/Summary:

The residential on-street parking permit program allows eligible residents to park their vehicles on the street within a designated area during permit hours. This service is primarily for residents in areas without driveways or garages. Permits are renewable and subject to fees.

    Eligibility and Application Requirements:

    • Ensure that your street or area is designated for permit parking and spaces are available. To obtain more information, contact the Permit Parking office.
    • A valid vehicle registration and driver’s licence with your name and correct address.
    • If your licence is not updated, provide one of the following:
      • Lease agreement or utility bill
      • Purchase & sale agreement (if owner)
      • Bank or credit card statement
      • Canada Post change of address receipt
    • Property owners: Submit photocopies of vehicle ownership registered to the address.
    • Tenants: Provide a letter from the property owner or property management stating no access to on-property parking.
    • Application by mail must include all required documentation and payment (cash, debit, credit card, cheque, or money order payable to “Treasurer, City of Toronto”).

    General Reminders:

    • Permit holders with no changes to their account (same licence plate and address) are encouraged to renew online.
    • Permit holders with updates (e.g., change of licence plate, address, or priority) must visit the office with updated documents.
    • Do not email Permit Parking with notices or credit card information.
    • Permits are issued for 6-month periods: December 1 to May 31 and June 1 to November 30.
    • Someone else may purchase a permit on your behalf if proper documentation is provided.

    Permit Renewal Options:

    • Online renewal is available during the renewal period.
    • Permit holders can renew without a renewal notice if they have their vehicle registration.
    • If parking is available on the property, evidence must be provided to qualify for a lower fee.
    • Further information on parking permits, including how to obtain a parking permit, lost permits, fees, change of address and much more can be found on the City of Toronto website.

    Waitlist Information:

If no spaces are available on your street, you may be placed on a waitlist. Complete and submit the waitlist application. You will be notified when a space becomes available.

    Car-Share Vehicle Parking:

Car-share organizations may apply to create designated Car-Share Vehicle Parking Areas (CVPAs). More details are available on the City of Toronto website.

Restrictions and Exemptions for Permit Parking Holders:

    • Permit holders must park in legal spaces during the posted permit parking hours. These hours are shown on street signs.
    • Permit holders are generally exempt from 1, 2, and 3-hour parking limits, but must still follow other traffic regulations.
    • Vehicles without a permit may be ticketed if parked in spaces reserved for permit holders.
    • The Toronto Police Parking Enforcement Unit enforces permit parking rules. Breaking these rules may result in losing your permit.

    Additional Rules for Permit Holders:

    • If a street has both Permit Parking and Pay & Display signs, permit holders do not need to pay at the meter or machine.
    • A vehicle with a valid permit cannot stay parked in the same spot for more than 7 days. It may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
    • On streets where parking switches sides, permit holders have a grace period from 9:00 p.m. the night before to 9:00 a.m. the next morning to move their vehicle.
    • The permit must be clearly visible and placed on the lower driver-side windshield.
    • The vehicle’s registration and licence plate must be valid according to Service Ontario.
    • A permit is not valid if used on a trailer, storage container, or bin.

    Major Snow Storm Parking:

    • Residential On-Street Permit Parking During Major Snow Storm Condition
    • Roadways designated as Snow Routes are prioritized for snow clearing and/or removal as they are considered critical to the city’s overall transportation network. Snow removal operations cannot effectively be achieved if vehicles are parked when operations are underway.
    • While we appreciate that alternative parking spaces may be hard to find, we encourage residents to do their best to utilize alternative streets within their designated permit parking area during a Major Snow Storm Condition to avoid penalties. Street-name basis permit holders on designated snow routes are encouraged to contact permit.parking@toronto.ca.
    • Please visit the Snow Removal After Major Storms webpage for more details. We also encourage you to keep an eye on the city’s snow route map and public notifications to stay updated on snow conditions in your area.
