Today, Toronto City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Stephen Conforti as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, following a comprehensive search. Stephen will assume the role on Monday, November 13 and will report to City Manager Paul Johnson.

As Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, Conforti will be responsible for setting the overall strategic and financial direction for the City of Toronto by establishing objectives and priorities that align with Council’s priorities and goals for the City.

Conforti has a long and accomplished history as a public servant in Toronto, having worked for both the City and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) over the last 17 years. He joined the City in October 2006 as a Financial Planning Analyst and quickly advanced to more senior roles where he helped further strategic priorities while managing fiscal challenges.

From 2017 to 2019, he was the Head of Finance & Treasurer at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) where he was responsible for planning, directing and overseeing various finance functions including operating and capital budgets, costing and financial statements, accounting, ridership analytics and revenue control, and treasury services. In 2019 he returned to the City to assume the role of Executive Director, Financial Planning.

Most recently, Conforti was Interim Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer where he was accountable for the effective use and management of the City’s financial resources and worked closely with the City Manager and City Council to secure the Long Term Financial Plan for the City in a challenging post-pandemic financial environment.

Conforti has a Bachelor of Commerce, Business Information Systems from Toronto Metropolitan University and completed the City of Toronto’s Executive Development Program at the Niagara Institute.
