The City of Toronto has implemented road safety improvements on Douro Street from King Street West to Strachan Avenue and on Wellington Street West from Strachan Avenue to Blue Jays Way, to increase safety for all road users.

In April 2024, City Council adopted the Douro Street Construction Staging Area for the development at 1071 King Street (TE12.39). In August 2024, a portion of the existing two-way cycle track was relocated to the east side of Douro Street, south of King Street West, to accommodate construction staging for the development at 1071 King Street.

A virtual stakeholder meeting was held on December 7, 2021. An online comment form and public survey was available using the City’s Social Pinpoint interactive mapping tool from December 2, 2021 to January 9, 2022. More details are available in the Public Consultation Report.
In November 2019, Transportation Services consulted on the installation of new uni-directional bike lanes and associated traffic changes on Douro Street and Wellington Street between King Street and Niagara Street. The majority of participants were in strong support of the project, and the uni-directional bike lanes were installed in 2020.

In 2022 on Wellington Street between Strachan Avenue and Draper Street and between Spadina Avenue and Blue Jays Way, watermain replacement and resurfacing was programmed. In addition to these City infrastructure improvements, residential developments at the Wellington/Bathurst intersection, as well as on the section between Draper Street and Spadina Avenue, presented opportunities to make further changes to the existing bikeways along Wellington Street.
On April 7, 2022, City Council adopted IE28.7– Cycling Network Plan- 2022 Cycling Infrastructure Installation- First Quarter, authorizing the installation of Douro-Wellington Cycling Connections project and all required Chapter 886, 910, 925, and 950 By-law amendments, on the following sections of roadway, as generally described in Attachment 4 – Douro-Wellington Cycling Connections By-Laws:
a. Bathurst Street (Front Street West to Richmond Street West);
b. Clarence Square (Spadina Avenue to Wellington Street West);
c. Douro Street (King Street West to Strachan Avenue);
d. Wellington Street West (Strachan Avenue to Blue Jays Way).
