The EEO develops and implements programs and projects that promote energy efficiency. Our target audiences are institutional, commercial, residential and industrial sectors of the city.

The EEO implements its programs to support the City's goals and objectives for energy security, economic and environmental benefits.

The Better Buildings Partnership (BBP) is the brand name for the following programs administered by the EEO.

* * MASH sector Energy Efficiency Initiatives
The Better Buildings Partnership program for the Municipal Academic Social Services Healthcare (MASH) sector works closely with owners and facilities managers to increase the energy efficiency of existing institutional buildings in the 416 area code through comprehensive multi-measure retrofit projects.

High Performance New Construction (HPNC)
BBP’s New Construction program assists developers to build above the standard set by the Ontario Building Code (OBC), in other words to ‘build green’. We assist building owners and developers access Ontario Power Authority’s High Performance New Construction (HPNC) program.  This program helps to offset the extra expense that is often incurred to design and construct a sustainable building.

BBP New Construction is an important partner with the City’s Planning Division, assisting and rewarding site plan applicants to meet energy efficiency requirements of the Toronto Green Standard.

Sustainable Energy Funds
Based on City Council's decision on January 15 and 16, 2013, the Sustainable Energy Funds was officially discontinued and there is no mechanism to support loans from the Sustainable Energy Funds.

For more information visit BBP's Sustainable Energy Funds page.

Demand Response
The Demand Response Program is the co-ordinated reduction of electricity demand by City end-users to balance province-wide demand and supply capabilities during periods when electricity supply is constrained, as determined by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).

Financial incentives are available to Ontario electricity end-users for the reduction of electricity demand involving the decrease of non-essential loads and the availability of generators.

District Energy Systems (DES)
Convert energy challenges into opportunities. DES keeps energy dollars in the community from economies of scale and higher efficiency than individual in-building heating and cooling systems. Also DES offers increased energy security from equipment redundancy while achieving environmental benefits.
