The Energy & Waste Management Office (EWMO) in Facilities Management division helps to reduce the City of Toronto's energy use thanks to its new EnergyCAP energy tracking program.
Here's how it works.
- Every month, the EWMO tracks energy use in all City-owned facilities using EnergyCAP
- EnergyCAP raises a flag if any building uses more energy than expected
- Building Operators are able to see the high energy use and take immediate measures to rectify the situation.
EnergyCAP is a leading-edge program that tracks energy use in City-owned buildings, as well as ensuring that utility bills match the energy used. Building operators (and other interested City staff) can access EnergyCAP through the City's internal network.
Working with the EWMO, Building Operators can be trained very quickly to use EnergyCAP and will start to reap the rewards of this tracking system. As soon as EnergyCAP 'sees' a spike in energy use, it will flag it and the Building Operator can investigate the situation. This quick identification means that energy over-use can be rectified allowing the City to save money on utility bills.
