Congratulatory messages from the Mayor


Proclamations

Proclamations recognize the value and importance of an event, campaign or organization that is significant to Toronto. They may be issued by the Mayor, upon request, to designate a special day, week or month.

Scrolls

Scrolls are issued to Toronto residents/organizations for anniversaries, birthdays, official openings, special honours, and for outstanding community service.

Birthdays and wedding anniversaries

  • 25th wedding anniversaries and up
  • 65th birthdays and up

Customized scrolls

  • to individuals, businesses and organizations on milestone occasions
  • special honours - winners of provincial, national or international competitions

Requests should be submitted a minimum of four weeks prior to the event and must include the following details:

  • Recipient's full name and address
  • Occasion information (25th wedding anniversary, 65th birthday) including the date of the event
  • Requester's name, address and contact number
  • Deadline date if different from event date
  • Mailing address or whether someone will pick up the scroll at the Protocol Office

Scrolls are issued at the discretion of the City of Toronto.

Letters of greeting/Message from the Mayor

Letters of greeting are issued to groups, institutions, individuals, organizations, or businesses for the following:

  • conventions, trade shows, festivals
  • city-wide sports tournaments
  • cultural celebrations
  • charity fundraising galas/events
  • significant anniversaries and awards

Letters are often used in an organization's printed program or for display purpose at the convention, trade show or event for which it was requested.

Letters of greeting cannot be issued for:

  • matters of political controversy, ideological or religious beliefs, or individual conviction
  • events or organizations that have no direct relationship to the City of Toronto
  • anything that contravenes City policies or by-laws

Letters of greeting/Message from the Mayor are issued at the discretion of the City of Toronto

Requests for letters of greeting from the Mayor must be accompanied by a detailed description of the organization and the event for which it is being requested. Drafted words and phrases to be included in the letter are welcome. The more detail provided regarding the event, the more personalized the letter can be. At a minimum, the accompanying information must include: the event date, printing deadline, a brief overview of the event, and contact information. Requests should be submitted a minimum of  four weeks in advance of the print deadline, in writing and addressed and mailed to:
