Earth Hour 2009

Earth HourAnd the lights went out in Toronto!

On Saturday March 28, thousands of Torontonians switched off to celebrate Earth Hour 2009.

Toronto’s electricity consumption dropped a whopping 15%, proving that we really are committed to action on climate change, and that even small actions like turning off your lights can make a huge difference in reducing the emissions that contribute to climate change.

With your help and participation, we sent a strong message for real action on climate change. Together, we are making a difference.

Celebrating Earth Hour under the stars
Thousands gathered at Nathan Phillips Square to celebrate Earth Hour and see the lights go out in the heart of the city. Some of Toronto’s hottest acts helped make it a memorable evening. Presented by the City of Toronto and World Wildlife Fund Canada, the free musical concert featured:
  • Suzie McNeil - top finalist from RockStar: INXS; star of We Will Rock You; new album Rock-n-Roller
  • Crash Parallel - alt rock band from Mississauga; former #1 on The Billboard Canadian Emerging Artist Chart
  • The Matt York Band - acoustic soul rockers
  • Karl Wolf - award-winning songwriter, producer and singer of serious skill and originality
  • Samba Squad - high energy 20-piece Afro-Brazilian percussion troupe

Stay tuned for photos and videos from the event.
