The City of Toronto, through Strategic Partnerships, maintains policies that govern partnership activities such as donations for community benefits, naming rights, sponsorships and honourific naming. These policies formalize the practices Toronto has used for many years to create successful partnerships and ensure consistent treatment for every potential partner.

Individual and Corporate Naming Rights Policy

The City welcomes proposals for naming rights by encouraging individual and corporate giving while safeguarding against the undue commercialization of the public realm.

Property Naming

The Property Naming Policy establishes the criteria and process to name or rename a City Property.

Sponsorship Policy

The City of Toronto welcomes mutually beneficial sponsorships that enrich the lives of residents by enhancing City properties and programs.

Donation Policy

City building is a collective and ongoing endeavour. Seeking or obtaining voluntary donations for community benefits provides valuable contributions to city building.

Guidelines for Funding Maintenance of Assets Received Through Partnerships

Third-party funding is needed to mitigate against the on-going maintenance costs of donated assets.

In-kind Support for Conferences and Events

The City does not provide financial funding to organizations that are looking to host or promote conferences, seminars and other such events in Toronto. In-kind assistance for such initiatives may be provided.
