Toronto Fire Services is the City’s only all hazards emergency response organization. Fire Services provides Toronto residents, visitors and businesses with protection against loss of life, property and the environment from the effects of fire, illness, accidents, and all other hazards through preparedness, prevention, public education, and emergency response, with an emphasis on quality services, efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.

The Fire Prevention Division of Toronto Fire Services, provides information about emergencies, fire regulations, home inspections, and the Alarm for Life program for residential smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Public education and school fire safety programs are also offered to the public.

Toronto Fire Services is the largest fire service in Canada, and the fifth largest fire service in North America.

In 2019, Toronto Fire Services earned accredited agency status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), making the City of Toronto the largest city in North America to have an accredited fire service. The multi-year journey to accreditation involved a comprehensive review of every aspect of TFS’ operations, which were evaluated against 256 key performance indicators and international best practices. Toronto Fire Services’ Accredited Agency status is valid from 2019-2024.
