Toronto Fire Services is the City’s only all hazards emergency response organization. Fire Services provides Toronto residents, visitors and businesses with protection against loss of life, property and the environment from the effects of fire, illness, accidents, and all other hazards through preparedness, prevention, public education, and emergency response, with an emphasis on quality services, efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.

The Fire Prevention Division of Toronto Fire Services, provides information about emergencies, fire regulations, home inspections, and the Alarm for Life program for residential smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Public education and school fire safety programs are also offered to the public.

Toronto Fire Services is the largest fire service in Canada, and the fifth largest fire service in North America.

In 2024, for the second consecutive time, Toronto Fire Services (TFS) received Accredited Agency Status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and the Centre for Public Safety Excellence, Inc., recognizing commitment to continuous quality improvement and delivery of world-class fire protection services that meet the needs of Toronto. The multi-year journey to accreditation involved a comprehensive review of every aspect of TFS’ operations, which were evaluated against 250 key performance indicators and international best practices.

The City of Toronto is the largest city in North America to be recognized with an internationally accredited fire service under CFAI and is one of only 310 agencies worldwide to earn CFAI Accredited Agency status, which is now valid from 2024 through 2029.
