Public Event #3

Virtual Public Meeting

The City hosted the last of three yongeTOmorrow public events on September 16, 2020, to receive public feedback on a recommended plan for Yonge Street (Recommended Design Concept – 4C: Pedestrian Priority Zones with One-Way Driving Access and Cycle Tracks) which prioritizes pedestrians, provides more protection for cyclists, and maintains access for transit, deliveries and parking garages. The event was attended by 206 people.

The City hosted the second of three yongeTOmorrow public events on November 21, 2019, to receive public feedback on a short list of alternatives with a preliminary preferred alternative identified. The event was attended by 173 people.

The City hosted the first of three yongeTOmorrow public events on May 9, 2019, to introduce the study and provide a long list of alternatives for consideration and comment. The event was attended by 161 people.

Study Launch

Thanks to all who attended the launch at Yonge-Dundas Square on May 3, 2019, with a performance by Unity Break Dancers and speakers, including Donald Corbiere from the City’s Indigenous Affairs Office, local Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam and Barbara Gray, the General Manager of Transportation Services.

Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG) members were invited by the City to represent local community associations, institutions and businesses with a diversity of opinions, perspectives and interests. The SAG provides a multi-stakeholder forum for identifying issues, approaches, concepts and alternatives.

The SAG is made up of property owners/operators, Business Improvement Areas, Residents’ Associations, research and advocacy groups and educational institutions.

Members met throughout the Environmental Assessment (EA) process and were given the opportunity to review design options for Yonge Street with City staff.

The Project Team met virtually with the SAG on December 9, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. using Webex Meetings to provide an overview of Round Three of Consultation and an update on the Recommended Design Concept.

The Project Team met virtually with the SAG on July 9, 2020, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. using Webex Meetings to provide a project update in light of recent events and to hear from participants about the effects of COVID-19 pandemic (i.e. physical distancing requirements, economic support & recovery) and other ongoing events and conversations (i.e. race & equity, crime prevention & policing, mental & physical health needs).
