Food safety is essential to preventing foodborne illness and protecting the health of event attendees. Toronto Public Health’s self‑paced Food Safety E-Learning modules provide practical, easy-to-follow guidance on safe food handling at special events.

For the best learning experience, complete the modules in the order listed, as each one builds on the previous one. Whether you are planning a community festival, fundraiser, or cultural event, these modules provide the foundational knowledge needed to operate safely, confidently and in compliance with public health requirements.

Who Should Take These Modules

These Food Safety E-Learning modules are intended for anyone involved in the preparation, handling, or service of food at special events, including:

  • Food vendors and temporary food premise operators
  • Event organizers and coordinators
  • Community groups, nonprofits, and cultural organizations hosting events
  • Volunteers who handle, prepare, or serve food
  • Anyone responsible for food safety at festivals, fairs, markets, or fundraising events

These modules are ideal for those new to special events or seeking a refresher on food safety requirements and best practices.

To get started, review the “Before You Begin” section below for tips on how to navigate the E-Learning platform. Then, select each module below to get started.

Follow these instructions to efficiently navigate each E-Learning module:

  1. Clear your browser cache or browsing data.
  2. Log in to only one browser at a time.
  3. Turn down speakers or use headphones if you are accessing the module in a shared environment.
  4. Answer all quiz questions to ensure you receive your certificate of completion.
  5. Use the Play and Pause icons to control each module. To revisit earlier content, select the “Previous” button.
  6. Closed Captions can be turned on or off as needed.
  7. The navigation tool bar (playbar) can be moved or minimized.
  8. For an optimized experience, we recommend using a desktop.
