The number of people actively experiencing homelessness in Toronto continues to grow. New homes with supports are urgently needed to ensure everyone has a warm, safe place to call home.
To respond to this urgent need, in 2021, the City of Toronto has acquired three floors of the former Super 8 Hotel at 222 Spadina Ave. to create homes with support services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The property has been renovated to create 84 self-contained supportive homes with 24/7 on-site supports for residents’ health and well-being. Homes First Society, an experienced housing and support services provider, is operating the site and supporting tenants.
The new homes:

Homes First Society was the selected housing provider for the 84 units of supportive housing at 224 Spadina Ave. For nearly four decades, Homes First has been working to create housing solutions for our city’s most vulnerable, and has experience delivering shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing for seniors, families, and single adults throughout Toronto.
Supportive housing is a combination of deeply affordable housing and on-site supports that enable people to live as independently as possible. Supportive housing can help people stabilize their lives, help them stay housed and positively contribute to communities. Learn more about supportive housing here.
There is no direct referral or application to live in supportive housing. Tenants for supportive housing are identified through the City’s Coordinated Access process – a community-wide approach to assess, prioritize and connect people experiencing homelessness to housing and supports. In partnership with the City’s street outreach team, and shelter and 24-hour respite program providers, clients are assessed to understand when types and level of supports they will need to maintain housing stability.
