While we aim to provide fully accessible content, there is no text alternative available for some of the content on this site. If you require alternate formats or need assistance understanding our maps, drawings, or any other content, please contact Client Services at 416-396-7378.

A booking account is required to book space for a full season or regularly for a set period for your group.

If your group hasn’t booked space before or would like to request more time or space:

  • For indoor spaces (gymnasiums, rooms), contact staff at the Community Recreation Centre (CRC) you would like to book

Once you have spoken to a staff person, start creating your booking account.

Before you start, you’ll need:

Each year, all groups booking space – for a one-time booking, the season or regularly for a set period – must give the City their participant list for review. This includes phone numbers and addresses.

Information may be checked with the sport governing body* to confirm residency and insurance coverage.

*Sport governing bodies define the way the sport is offered through clubs and local organizations.  They decide on things like rule changes for the sport, training for coaches and officials and athlete development.

Gender identity information

The City collects gender identity information according to the City of Toronto’s Data for Equity Strategy to help identify inequities experienced by women, girls, trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people, to understand who is accessing facilities and spaces and how well the facilities and spaces are addressing their needs.

Ice Allocation

Indoor Prime time ice is allocated on a priority basis according to group classifications; the Ice Allocation Policy defines this process, while the 2025-2026 City-wide Ice Allocation Work Plan outlines the milestones and dates for the process. The total time allocated to a group in a single season and the method by which the time is calculated can be found in the 2024-2025 Ice Allocation Entitlements. Read General Terms and Conditions for etiquette and other rules.

Policy

The Ice Allocation Policy guides how the ice time during weekday evenings and weekends is divided at Toronto’s indoor arenas and outdoor rinks.

About the Policy
  • The City books hours for their programs first. Ice time is first offered to groups who do programs for a whole season (September to April).
  • Once City programs are booked in, the order of priority is non-profit groups (children or youth, competitive youth programs, adults, or older adults), then private companies (all ages).
  • Groups hand in a list of all people who are part of their group each year.
  • The number of hours each group receives is based on the number of people in the group and how many of them live in Toronto.
  • Groups must show 90 per cent residency in Toronto. Groups who don’t meet the 90 per cent residency will be considered non-residents.
  • Applications must be submitted by set deadlines. Late applications are considered only after all those that were received on time.
  • If groups want to give back ice that they won’t use, they need to give three weeks’ notice or they’ll be charged a penalty.
  • Fees and charges for booking ice are set by Toronto City Council.
  • Groups can appeal the ice time that is offered to them by writing a letter to the booking staff.

The Permit Allocation Policy guides how to address multiple space requests for the same timeslots at Toronto’s indoor recreation spaces (like gymnasiums, pools) and outdoor sports fields (like soccer fields, baseball diamonds).

The Permit Allocation Policy does not cover ice allocation. The ice allocation policy can be found in the Ice Rinks, Pro Shops and Dry Pads section of this page.

It also doesn’t cover Allotment Gardens.

About the Policy

  • This policy is followed when two or more groups are requesting to use the same space and time.
  • Groups hand in a list of all people who are part of their group each year.
  • Non-profit groups must show 90 per cent residency in Toronto. Groups who don’t meet the 90 per cent residency will be given non-resident status.
  • The City books hours for their programs first.
  • If two or more groups want the same space and have the same ratio of Toronto residents, the groups who serve the following age groups will have priority for the space:
    • Resident Community Youth and Children (age zero to 18 years)
    • Resident Community Seniors (age 60+ years) and Adult (age 19 to 59 years)
    • Community groups of all ages that do not have 90 per cent of their participants who are City of Toronto residents
    • Private and Commercial Groups, Individuals
  • Within each group above, if there are still multiple requests for the same space and timeslot, groups that serve equity-deserving communities and females will have priority.
  • Applications must be submitted by set deadlines. Late applications are considered only after all those received on time.
  • Fees and charges for booking ice are set by Toronto City Council.
  • Groups can appeal the time that is offered to them by writing a letter to the booking staff.
