Description of Service / Summary

The Toronto Police Parking Enforcement Unit offers short-term parking considerations to help residents and businesses manage parking infractions under certain circumstances. These considerations allow for the withdrawal of specific parking violations for a limited period, ensuring residents can comply with city parking rules while addressing special situations. Applications must be accurate, and guidelines ensure fairness and proper use.

What is a Parking Consideration?

A Parking Consideration permits the withdrawal of infractions in these situations:

  • Prohibited parking areas
  • Expired meters
  • Three-hour parking limits
  • Parking in excess of permitted time

Important Notes:

  • Considerations are granted for 3-month intervals.
  • Extension requests should be submitted at least 3 weeks before the expiration date.
  • No backdating is allowed.
  • Proof of residency may be required for cancellation of violations under a consideration.

Accuracy of Application Information

Applicants must ensure all details are complete and accurate:

  • License plate number must match the vehicle registration
  • Vehicle must be registered to the property address for the consideration
  • Contractors must use a commercial license plate if applicable

Tip: Review all information carefully before submitting to avoid delays or denial.

Inaccuracy Threshold:

  • Applications with more than 25% inaccurate or inconsistent information will be denied.

Reapplication Process

If an application is denied due to inaccuracies:

  • Applicants must submit a new Parking Consideration application.

Parking Consideration Restrictions

Parking Considerations do not cover:

  • No Standing, No Stopping, sidewalks, boulevards
  • Fire hydrants, fire routes, rush hour routes
  • Permit parking streets (temporary parking permits required)
  • Capital Projects (planned city construction, road resurfacing, watermain repairs)

Note: Construction bins and other road obstructions are not handled by Parking Enforcement. Requests should be sent to Transportation Services.

Construction and Temporary Parking

For short-term construction and utility work:

  • Contractors must provide 48-hour notice to affected parties.
  • Vehicles may need to be temporarily relocated with instructions in the notice.
  • Homeowners must follow all applicable parking rules on the roadway.
  • Parking tickets received due to these activities can be submitted to Parking Enforcement for cancellation.
