The Toronto Police Parking Enforcement Unit offers short-term parking considerations to help residents and businesses manage parking infractions under certain circumstances. These considerations allow for the withdrawal of specific parking violations for a limited period, ensuring residents can comply with city parking rules while addressing special situations. Applications must be accurate, and guidelines ensure fairness and proper use.
What is a Parking Consideration?
A Parking Consideration permits the withdrawal of infractions in these situations:
- Prohibited parking areas
- Expired meters
- Three-hour parking limits
- Parking in excess of permitted time
Important Notes:
- Considerations are granted for 3-month intervals.
- Extension requests should be submitted at least 3 weeks before the expiration date.
- No backdating is allowed.
- Proof of residency may be required for cancellation of violations under a consideration.
Accuracy of Application Information
Applicants must ensure all details are complete and accurate:
- License plate number must match the vehicle registration
- Vehicle must be registered to the property address for the consideration
- Contractors must use a commercial license plate if applicable
Tip: Review all information carefully before submitting to avoid delays or denial.
Inaccuracy Threshold:
- Applications with more than 25% inaccurate or inconsistent information will be denied.
Reapplication Process
If an application is denied due to inaccuracies:
- Applicants must submit a new Parking Consideration application.
Parking Consideration Restrictions
Parking Considerations do not cover:
- No Standing, No Stopping, sidewalks, boulevards
- Fire hydrants, fire routes, rush hour routes
- Permit parking streets (temporary parking permits required)
- Capital Projects (planned city construction, road resurfacing, watermain repairs)
Note: Construction bins and other road obstructions are not handled by Parking Enforcement. Requests should be sent to Transportation Services.
Construction and Temporary Parking
For short-term construction and utility work:
- Contractors must provide 48-hour notice to affected parties.
- Vehicles may need to be temporarily relocated with instructions in the notice.
- Homeowners must follow all applicable parking rules on the roadway.
- Parking tickets received due to these activities can be submitted to Parking Enforcement for cancellation.
- Short-term work is not eligible for Parking Consideration due to staffing and cost constraints.
