Inclusive and Adaptive Skating

The City of Toronto supports inclusive and accessible skating at its rinks across the city. Skate aids, sledges, and wheelchairs can be used on the ice.

Sledges are adaptive skating devices that give people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in skating activities

Sledges are available to the public for use during leisure skate programs at indoor arenas and outdoor rinks.

Requesting a Sledge

  • Call the Adapted and Inclusive Recreation Services Hotline at 416-395-6128 or email: aiscw@toronto.ca to book a sledge a minimum of 10 business days in advance of its intended use
  • A few questions are asked as part of the request process. Once the request is completed, City staff will arrange transportation of the sledge to the appropriate rink and will confirm drop-off with the patron

Skate Aids

  • Skate aids are available at locations on a first come first serve basis, based on availability. Check with on-site staff if you require a skate aid.

Wheelchairs

  • Both manual and powered wheelchairs are welcome on the ice during leisure skate times. Check in with on-site staff to learn how to access the ice.

Help us keep the ice clean and safe. If you are using a wheelchair, sledge, or approved skate aid, please ensure they do not track salt or dirt onto the ice surface.
