About Early Local Registration
Early Local Registration is a Toronto City Council-directed initiative that provides residents living near Free Centres, community recreation centres that offer free programs and activities, the opportunity to register for City-run recreation programs one week ahead of general registration. The goal is to increase access for local residents, especially in lower-income neighbourhoods, reflecting the City’s ongoing work to design and deliver programs that are responsive to the needs of local communities.
To confirm eligibility for the Early Local Registration program, residents can visit the City’s website. Eligible residents can register online, by phone or in person, where staff will be available to support registration.
How to register for activities
To register, residents must set up an account in the City’s registration and booking system. More information, including program listings, is available on the City’s Summer Recreation Program webpage.
The City offers low-cost recreation programs at its community recreation facilities across Toronto each season, along with offering eligible residents in need of program subsidy access to recreation programs through the Welcome Policy – Recreation Fee Subsidy program.
The City is Toronto’s largest provider of recreation activities for people of all ages, interests and abilities. Approximately 10,200 registered courses and approximately 75,000 program spaces, in addition to the already released CampTO programs, are available this summer. From sports to arts, crafts and swimming, residents can choose from of a wide range of activities to get active.
Quote:
“Every child deserves the chance to swim, play, learn and connect in their own community. Too often, families living near free recreation centres were missing out because programs filled up before they had a fair chance to register. Early Local Registration is changing that. Local residents are now getting access to the programs closest to home, whether it’s swimming lessons, arts, dance, fitness or sports. We’ve seen local participation grow from three in 10 registrants to seven in 10, helping more families build community, stay active and enjoy everything our recreation programs have to offer.”
