Request an investigation for the installation of a temporary sign or to investigate an existing temporary sign. Types of requests could be lack of signage about road work or construction, detour signs, or removal of temporary sign.

Temporary signs are signs that are not permanently attached or fixed to a structure or surface. The Signs Bylaw regulates the size and location of all temporary signs on private and public property. Some temporary signs require permits. To report a temporary sign without a permit, contact 311.

Signs Requiring Permit

  • A-frame signs
  • new development signs
  • portable signs
  • mobile signs

Signs Not Requiring Permit

You will need to obtain a Temporary Sign Provider Licence if you provide signs for a business.

Temporary signs seized due to non-compliance are held and stored for a period of 30 days. After the 30 day period, the sign is then destroyed without notice. Fees are applicable for the costs associated with the removal, storage, disposal as well as the recovery of seized portable signs. If you would like to inquire about a confiscated sign, contact 311.

If a temporary sign is erected or displayed without permit it may, without notice, be removed at the expense of the owner. A fee is charged for the retrieval of an illegal mobile sign plus the cost of storage, charged at a rate per day.
