The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) will span 9.2 kilometers from the future Mount Dennis Station on Line 5 (Eglinton) to Renforth Drive, with a total of seven stations.

The ECWE is an initiative under the Metrolinx-led Subway Program that will span 9.2 kilometers from the future Mount Dennis Station on Line 5 (Eglinton) to Renforth Drive, with a total of seven stations including two elevated stations at the Jane and Scarlett and five underground stations at Mount Dennis, Royal York, Islington, Kipling, Martin Grove, and Renforth. The ECWE will offer connections to the UP Express, Kitchener Line GO Train service at Mount Dennis, TTC bus services, and MiWay and GO Bus services via the Mississauga Transitway at Renforth Drive.
Plans are also being explored with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority to extend the line another 4.7 kilometres to Pearson International Airport.
The ECWE is being built under four contracts:
Construction of the ECWE is currently underway. In April 2022, Metrolinx’s project company (West End Connectors) commenced tunneling of the twin tunnels using tunnel boring machines from the launch site near Renforth Drive and Eglinton Avenue West to the extraction shaft at Scarlett Road as part of the package of work for the Advance Tunnel 1 contract. The two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have completed tunnelling with the first TBM breaking through the last wall at the extraction shaft in April 2024 and the second TBM in May 2024. The Advance Tunnel 2 contract has been awarded to Strabag Inc. to design, build and finance the second underground segment of the ECWE, the 500-metre tunnel between Jane and Mount Dennis stations.
The Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Elevated Guideway contract was released in April 2022 and closed in September 2022. The proposals submitted by the shortlisted teams were evaluated and the contract was awarded to Aecon Group Inc. in December 2023. In March 2024, a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued for the Stations, Rail and Systems contract for construction of the seven stations and further timelines will be announced in due course.
