InvolvedYouth2 The City of Toronto is committed to helping young people make a successful transition to adulthood and become self-sufficient and engaged citizens. The City and many community organizations help youth make these transitions through a wide variety of programs and services. At the heart of many of these programs is a strong emphasis on youth engagement.

In January 2004, the City first launched InvolveYouth to encourage community-based organizations to involve young people in decision-making and at this time released InvolveYouth: A guide to involving youth in decision-making.

As a follow up, in September 2006 the City released InvolveYouth 2: A guide to meaningful youth engagement, which provides advice on youth engagement to organizations and staff who work with youth.

InvolveYouth2 is a practical manual which draws on the experience of youth workers and other experts. It provides strategies on how organizations can engage young people by creating welcoming environments, supporting youth to make decisions and designing meaningful youth program activities and approaches.

blue bullet One of the City's summer youth engagement programs focused on film production. The Youth Documentary Training Project gave 10 young people of colour the opportunity to work with an experienced film maker to learn technical skills. The result was the film, Hear the Story, which tells their own story and provides an insight into the real meaning of community safety.

In addition to the InvolveYouth Campaign, the City is dedicated to listening to the voice of young people through the Toronto Youth Cabinet.
