InvolveYouth aims to reach any community-based group, organization
or agency that has a democratic decision-making structure
such as a board of directors. Such organizations might deliver
social services, manage housing co-ops, offer cultural, educational
and recreational programs, or advocate on behalf of business
and neighbourhood concerns.
Involving
youth in decision-making is an idea that can work for everyone.
Young people have energy, ideas and enthusiasm that can help
organizations make better decisions. It gives youth the opportunity
to develop important skills.
We have
put together a guide to help organizations create a respectful
and hospitable environment within which youth can participate.
It is called, InvolveYouth: A guide to involving youth in
decision-making, and it describes the benefits that youth
participation can bring — to organizations, young people
and communities. It offers some ideas about how organizations
can successfully extend an invitation to the decision-making
table and it also has a list of resources to help the process
run smoothly.
In addition
to the InvolveYouth Campaign, the City is dedicated to listening
to the voice of young people through the Toronto
Youth Cabinet. |
