Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program

Overview

Through the Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) and business associations are eligible to receive funding for community-driven initiatives that mitigate the impacts of construction on local businesses.

Objectives

The program provides funding to local business communities significantly impacted by transit expansion projects, assisting BIAs and other organizations in their efforts to implement effective, innovative and creative solutions to local business challenges posed by sustained major construction. The program goals are to:

• Support local businesses impacted by major construction works
• Encourage the development and testing of innovative and effective construction mitigation strategies and expand their use across the City of Toronto
• Pilot and showcase innovative, scalable construction mitigation solutions to challenges faced by BIAs and local business communities

Funding Available

Grants are available in increments of $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000 for projects that meet eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

Eligible Organizations

The Transit Expansion Construction Mitigation Grant Program is available to the following organizations:

• Toronto BIAs
• Not-for-profit organizations including business associations and registered charities with strong local business involvement

Please note: For-profit businesses including sole proprietorships, partnerships and corporations are not eligible to apply.

Eligible Projects

BIAs and not-for-profit organizations are eligible for grants of up to $50,000 for a range of initiatives, such as:

• Business engagement
• Area marketing and branding
• Creative event activations
• Research and needs assessment

Projects must support businesses impacted by major transit construction, including the Eglinton Crosstown, Finch West LRT, Ontario Line, Scarborough Subway Extension or Yonge North Subway Extension.

Ineligible Projects

The following types of projects do not qualify for funding under this program:

• Projects which are eligible for funding under other City of Toronto grants including BIA financial incentive programs, such as Streetscape Improvement Program, Outdoor Mural & Street Art Program or Streetscape Master Plan Program
• Project-related services completed prior to grant application approval
