The City of Toronto’s Amplified Live Music on Patios program runs from May through November 2024. The program allows amplified live music on CaféTO patios to add energy and vitality to participating main streets – and help to create more paid opportunities for local musicians.

Amplified live music is permitted only within the following scheduled times:

  • Thursdays & Fridays, 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Saturdays, noon to 10 p.m.
  • Sundays, noon to 6 p.m.

If participating in the program, patios must comply with the City’s Noise Bylaw at all times. More information is available in the CaféTO staff report.

Outdoor Patios on Private Property

Outdoor patios on private property are now permitted to have small entertainment areas in most commercial zones, open space (park) zones, and industrial zones on major streets. Check if your private patio is in the right zone.

Entertainment is not permitted on rooftop patios.

Participating restaurants and BIAs are encouraged to add the upcoming performances to the Festivals & Events Calendar.

What Is an Amplified Live Music Performance?

A live performance for an audience by an individual musical artist or group of musical artists on physical or digital instruments, but excludes the playback of any recorded music without the active use of an instrument.

        How Can Musicians Participate?

Musicians interested in performing as part of the Amplified Live Music on Patios program should contact BIAs or restaurants directly.

To be considered for other paid performance opportunities (YYZ Live, Music 311 and City Hall Live), musicians can apply online to be considered for other performance opportunities.
