Recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles, as set by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, to prepare annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
On May 2, 2022, the City’s TransformTO Net Zero Strategy won the Environment, Climate and Energy Award at the 9th Annual American Planning Association Awards for Excellence in Sustainability. The award honours a plan or project that addresses current and future needs related to climate change mitigation or adaptation, energy or water efficiency, renewable or alternative energy, green jobs, air quality, green infrastructure, or other efforts related to environment, climate, and energy planning. The City of Toronto won two Gold Awards – one in the Surprise Us category for the Community Environment Days campaign and the other in the Social Media & Online Strategy category for the Waste Wizard campaign. In addition, the City received a Silver Award in the Print Tool category for the 2022 Waste Management Guide and a Bronze Award was received in the Campaign, Large Municipality category for the Waste Reduction campaign.
Call2Recycle selected the City of Toronto to receive their 2022 Leader in Sustainability Award, in recognition of the impressive diversion of 75,492 kilograms of used batteries by Solid Waste Management Services, Transfer Station & Landfill Operations.
The World Smart City Awards are held annually as part of the World Smart City Expo in Barcelona which brings together a global audience of smart city professionals, providing an unparalleled opportunity to share the City’s work with the world. The City of Toronto was recognized for its Digital Infrastructure Strategic Framework (DISF), an overarching vision for Toronto as a digitally-connected community. The DISF was approved by City Council in 2022.
The City of Toronto was the winner of Women Business Enterprise Canada’s 2022 Champion Award, which recognized the City’s commitment to supplier diversity and its advocacy in advancing social procurement through other municipalities, corporations and women-owned businesses in Canada.
