On November 18, 2024, The City of Toronto hosted a community consultation meeting at St. Stephen-in-the-Fields Church. The purpose of the meeting was to help inform the finalization of the HCD Plan for consideration by the Toronto Preservation Board and Community Council. The meeting followed a drop-in format between the following times:
In advance of the meeting, two pop-up sessions were hosted in the market to inform passers-by of the date and time of the event. These pop-ups occurred on November 7 and 12, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On September 19, 2024, Heritage Planning staff met with the Community Advisory Group (CAG) to provide updates on the development of the Draft HCD Plan and to receive feedback on specific policy approaches. The event was held virtually.
On March 7, 2024, City of Toronto Heritage Planning staff, in collaboration with the Indigenous engagement and consultation firm Innovation 7, hosted an in-person meeting from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (NCCT) to speak with members of the local urban Indigenous community concerning the West Queen West and Kensington Market Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plans. The purpose of this meeting was to gather additional feedback on the draft objective and guidelines for each of the two HCD Plans by featuring a case study example from Kensington Market. There was a formal presentation by City staff that included open discussion periods facilitated by Innovation 7.
On October 24, 2023, The City of Toronto hosted a community consultation meeting at St. Stephen-in-the-Fields Church. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an update about the development of the Draft HCD Plan and to collect feedback from community members on the Draft Statement of Objectives, Heritage Attributes, Statement of Cultural Heritage Value, and policy approaches. On September 28, 2023, City of Toronto Heritage Planning staff, in collaboration with the Indigenous engagement and consultation firm Innovation 7, hosted two in-person meetings to speak with members of the local urban Indigenous community concerning the West Queen West and Kensington Market Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plans. The purpose of these meetings was to review the feedback gathered at the first two sessions and to present a draft objective and guidelines for each of the two HCD Plans. There was a formal presentation by City staff that included open discussion periods facilitated by Innovation 7. These meetings took place on the same date at the following times at the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (Queen West location):
On July 20, 2023, City of Toronto Heritage Planning staff, in collaboration with the Indigenous engagement and consultation firm Innovation 7, hosted two in-person meetings at the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (Queen West Site) to speak with members of the local urban Indigenous community concerning the West Queen West and Kensington Market Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Plans. The purpose of these meetings was to gather feedback on whether there are places of value to Indigenous community members in these districts, and to identify opportunities to reflect Indigenous histories and perspectives in the HCD plans. There was a formal presentation by City staff that included open discussion periods facilitated by Innovation 7. These meetings took place on the same date at the following times:
On March 23, 2022, Heritage Planning staff met with the Community Advisory Group (CAG) to provide updates on the development of the Draft HCD Plan and to receive feedback on the work. The event was held virtually.
In order to further discuss the development of the HCD Plan a series of three mini-CAG meetings were organized to seek input on key issues and further analysis undertaken by City staff in the past year. All CAG members were notified that they could observe as many of the mini-CAG meetings as they wish. These meetings took place on the following dates and times:
On November 6, 2019 the City of Toronto held the sixth Kensington Market HCD Community Advisory Group meeting at the Kensington Community School. The purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss the draft Heritage Attributes, Statement of Cultural Heritage Value and Statement of Objectives and review and discuss draft Character Sub-Areas.
On May 2, 2019 the City of Toronto held the fifth Kensington Market HCD Community Advisory Group meeting at Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields. The purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss the draft Heritage Attributes, Statement of Cultural Heritage Value and Statement of Objectives and review and discuss draft Character Sub-Areas.
On March 6, 2019 the City of Toronto held the fourth Kensington Market HCD Community Advisory Group meeting at the Kensington Market Lofts. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an overview of the HCD Study and introduce the HCD Plan phase of this project.
On February 9th, 2017, The City of Toronto hosted the second community consultation meeting for the Kensington Market Heritage Conservation District Study at St. Stephen’s Community House, along with the project team led by Taylor Hazell Architects.
On November 22, 2016, the Kensington Market HCD Stakeholder Advisory Committee met at Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields Church for its third meeting. The evening was facilitated by Melanie Hare (Urban Strategies Inc.) with material presented by heritage consultant, Ellen Kowalchuk (Taylor Hazell Architects).
The City of Toronto held the first Community Consultation Meeting for the Kensington Market HCD Study at St. Stephen’s Community House on June 21, 2016.
The purpose of this meeting was to present initial findings from the historic research and field work and to gather community input on the area’s heritage value.
On May 24, 2016, the Kensington Market HCD Stakeholder Advisory Committee met at Saint Stephen-in-the-Fields Church for its first meeting. The evening was facilitated by Melanie Hare (Urban Strategies Inc.) with material presented by Sharon Hong (Heritage Preservation Services) and Ellen Kowalchuk (Taylor Hazell Architects).
