Visioning Workshop Summary Report

Let’s create a community photo album!

We invite you to share photographs you have taken in Scarborough Centre. Be sure to use #ShowUsSC when you post your photos to Twitter and Instagram! You may choose to use digital tools (e.g., social media stickers, text, drawing, Photoshop) to re-imagine elements of Scarborough Centre like homes, buildings, pathways, shops, parks and community spaces.

You can see photos that have already been shared publicly on Twitter and Instagram.

We will showcase and credit submissions within our Study materials, including reports and presentations at public meetings.

To learn more about the rules and processes for community growth in Ontario, check out the Citizens’ Guide to Land Use Planning.

When moving in public spaces to capture images of Scarborough Centre, please practice appropriate physical distancing and any additional health and safety measures recommended to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Calling all young city-builders!

We want to hear kids’ ideas for Scarborough Centre. As current users of the area and future users in years to come, kids have unique needs, preferences, interests, and opinions. We challenge them to re-imagine our map of the area using arts and crafts supplies to include the buildings, parks, shops, pathways, and other elements they would like to see in the future.

This mixed-media collaborative art project aims to empower children to share their aspirations for their community while capturing their perspectives on the future of Scarborough Centre. As curators of their own maps and creations, what kids choose to include or exclude will tell us a lot about their perceptions and preferences for their environments.

We invite parents, guardians, and teachers to download our activity workbook. Have your child read the instructions and draw or build on the map at the end of the workbook. Send us photos of your child’s completed submission form and map to oursc@toronto.ca (please keep the image size to under 25 MB). We’ll showcase a selection on our website and in Study materials. Spread the word and share your creation on social media using #LittleSC!

An on-line survey was launched for members of the public to share their thoughts and experiences within Scarborough Centre and provide ideas about the area’s future.  The voluntary survey had 14 questions and was available from June 30 to August 28, 2020.
