Field investigations are underway to inform the Detailed Design phase of the project.
The City of Toronto is advancing the City Council-approved interim offset intersection for the Doris Avenue Extension. This is a new road connection that will extend Tradewind Avenue north to Sheppard Avenue East. The project supports planned growth, improves local connectivity and enhances road safety and access for all road users, while creating a more attractive and comfortable streetscape.
The project area begins at the Doris Avenue/Greenfield Avenue intersection and extends south along Doris Avenue toward Sheppard Avenue East. The Doris Avenue extension will run parallel to the existing Bonnington Place alignment, connecting to Anndale Drive and aligning with Tradewind Avenue. The project area also includes Sheppard Avenue East, from Yonge Street in the west to Kenneth Avenue/Leona Drive in the east.
2015 to 2022 – Complete
City Council adopted the ESR Addendum in 2020
(2020.IE18.1),
followed by a Notice of Completion and public review period in 2022.
A high-level (10%) conceptual design was prepared and shared through
public consultation to help inform decisions and identify potential impacts.
2025 to 2026 – Complete
The preliminary design of the project (30%) was developed, outlining
the overall layout and key features. This phase included technical
studies and site work and helped refine costs in preparation for
detailed design.
2026 to 2027 – In Progress
The design will be further refined to define how the project will be
constructed, including the roadway layout, utilities and streetscape
elements. Public and interest group consultation will take place when
project information is available.
Future
Timelines for utility relocation and construction have not yet been
determined and will be developed through future planning, design,
budgeting, coordination and approval processes.

In 2022, the City completed the North York Centre South Service Road Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Addendum, which evaluated options and proposed changes to Doris Avenue, Bonnington Place and Tradewind Avenue.
As a result of the evaluation undertaken, the study update recommended delivering the project in two phases, including a new road connection between Doris Avenue and Tradewind Avenue:
Both phases protect space for a future four‑lane road south of Sheppard Avenue East, with sidewalks on both sides and wider boulevards where possible.
The study was completed in accordance with the requirements of the MCEA process.
An Environmental Study Report (ESR) Addendum is required when there are significant changes to a project or to the surrounding environment after an ESR has been completed. Since the original ESR (1996) (see appendices) and ESR Addendum (1998) were filed, conditions in the study area have changed. As a result, an updated review is needed.
Consultation on revised design alternatives took place in 2013, and a draft ESR Addendum was prepared in 2014 based on that input. The 2022 ESR Addendum builds on this previous work and reflects additional consultation and updated environmental conditions.
A Notice of Completion was issued, and an ESR was placed on the public record for a 30-day review period, from March 17 to April 15, 2022.
