The Assembly Hall uses Cisco Webex Meetings for online classes and workshops. A few days before the class start date, the Webex meeting invite containing instructions on how to join the class is sent.

Material Kits will only be available by curbside pick-up. Material fees are payable by cash at the time of pick-up.

For all online workshops where material kits are to be supplied, kits will be made available for curbside pick-up at the Assembly Hall, located at 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive. Multiple dates and times will be offered and will be confirmed in advance of each workshop date.

Reignite the senses through fun and interactive exploration of the sounds that surround us. Learn fun facts about the science of sound and our relationship with sounds in the environment. Stretch the ears by closing eyes turning cameras off. Play sound charades, create sound stories and share field recordings.

Make friends, play drama games, and learn all about Shakespeare’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet. Lead by professional artist-educator Jack Grinhaus, participants will be able to connect with other young people. This class is a perfect way for kids to be introduced to Shakespeare’s plays all while developing their reading skills and vocabulary.

Jack Grinhaus is an award-winning and nominated director, producer, playwright, educator, and actor with numerous theatre, TV, and film credits.

Join writer and performer Gugun Deep Singh as he reveals the process of creating exciting stories for the stage. In this six-week course, student writers will play cooperative games, learn the 10 things you need to know to write a play, and work with Gugun to make their own five to six page play-script.

Gugun Deep Singh is a performer, producer, writer and teaching artist who works across the United States and in Canada. He trained at conservatories in Chicago and New York and presently lives in Toronto. He believes that learning “oughta be fun, and fun oughta be motivating”. He likes dogs, but not as much as dogs like him. He loves factoids, and if you ask nicely, he’ll probably share one with you.

Discover how to create high-quality works of digital photography using free web software (no downloading or sign-up required). Learn how to search, find and manipulate free images sourced online and bring multiple images together to create something new, while learning photo editing techniques and collage concepts. Works created in these workshops can be used for creating animated works in the Animated GIFs workshops.

Make an image come to life by creating animated GIFs using free web software (no downloading or sign-up required). Learn the basics of frame animation: movement, speed and image order, while making a looped animation of something silly, serious or both. Discover how GIFs can be shared via private messaging, social media or email and used in presentations or on websites.

Explore the magic of augmented reality in these workshops that introduce concepts and experimental activities in fun ways that illustrate how augmented reality fits into the future of media. Learn how to use videos or GIFs and attach them to images using free online software (sign-up required).

A computer and a smart device (phone, tablet, or iPad) is required for viewing. Participants must download the Artivive app (free) and sign-up for a free account online. This will be facilitated in the workshop and no previous experience is required. Participants who complete the Animated GIFs workshops will have the ability to use their own animations in augmented reality experiences.

Workshop Cancellation

  • Due to low enrolment by The Assembly Hall: 100 per cent refund or account credit.
  • Missed classes on the part of the student: make-up classes or account credits will not be provided.
  • Due to instructor emergencies/illness: make-up class provided. If a make-up class is provided, no refunds or account credits will be issued.

Withdrawals, Refunds and Credits

All registration cancellations/withdrawals must be initiated in writing prior to the start of the workshop’s second class. No refunds or credits will be considered after this date. Withdrawals will be prorated based on the date of the withdrawal, not based on attendance in the program. A $12 administration fee will be deducted per person, per workshop for all refunds, withdrawals and credits.

Materials are not included in adult course fees unless stipulated in the program description. Please inquire at the Assembly Hall Office or with your instructor for supply lists.
