Made of carefully carved bone and ceramic beads, hair bone pipe beads have been a part of Indigenous culture for thousands of years. Tubed-shaped beads, often tapered at both ends, were used as decorative elements by Indigenous people of North America. These beads were used for ceremonial dress, chokers, bracelets and chest plates.

Today, many people enjoy beautifully crafted bracelets and chokers as part of their everyday accessories. In this workshop you will discover the technique of combining hair bone pipe beads, ceramic beads and deer hide to create beautiful custom bracelets.

Porcupine quills were used by Indigenous people of the Great Lakes area as decorating materials long before the introduction of seed beads by the European traders. This seemed to be true wherever porcupines were found in the wooded areas of the northern continent.

Quills were dyed colours with natural dyes, used in their round state, or flattened and used as a platting material. In this workshop, you will learn the beautiful versatility of the quills and create beautiful custom earrings
